Kestrel at Welney Wetlands
Mid December we were on our first guided Hare Walk. Unfortunately the Hares were not seen until our 2nd visit the following week when we did the Hare Walk again. We were lucky over the 2 weeks to see Cranes, Spoonbills, Roe Deer, Water Deer, Cattle Egret, and we stayed late to view the Whooper Swans being fed from the floating wheelbarrow on the flooded wash. Our highlight both weeks was seeing the Short Eared Owl sitting in the tree very close to the centre and also in flight hunting where we were looking for Hares.
I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve stood looking over the fields at Middle Creek waiting for the Short-eared to come out. Welney is about 3600 miles away, just a little bit too far!
