Short Eared Owl at Welney Wetlands

Hare at Welney Wetlands

 Hare at Welney Wetlands

We patiently walked across the fields for the second week hoping to see the Hares, we were rewarded seeing two that hurriedly left their forms and ran in to the distance.  The guide encouraged us to feel the warmth left in the forms from their body heat.

Mid December we were on our first guided Hare Walk.  Unfortunately the Hares were not seen until our 2nd visit the following week when we did the Hare Walk again.  We were lucky over the 2 weeks to see Cranes, Spoonbills, Roe Deer, Water Deer, Cattle Egret, and we stayed late to view the Whooper Swans being fed from the floating wheelbarrow on the flooded wash. Our highlight both weeks was seeing the Short Eared Owl sitting in the tree very close to the centre and also in flight hunting where we were looking for Hares.

Skua at Titchwell

Whilst watching the birds fly along the Titchwell shoreline in November this bird caught my eye.  It was low then rose steeply before plunging in to the sea to fish.  Learning the behaviour of different birds to aid identification has been a great part of my photography journey.  Next time I see a Skua I hope to get a better photo!

Glossy Ibis at Deeping Lakes

Alerted that 2 Glossy Ibis were visiting Deeping Lakes, we were rewarded as we walked along the Welland River bank with a really close encounter as the Glossy Ibis flew from the near side to the far bank.
