Treecreeper at Ab Kettleby
Treecreeper
I have only ever seen 3 Treecreepers. My first attempt to photograph this elusive bird a couple of years ago was not very good. This one is not much of an improvement but I am learning their behaviour so I may be better prepared next time I visit Ab Kettleby.
Coal Tit
Coal Tit
I spent half an hour from 4.30pm sitting in the garden with the camera on 24th August. Amazingly I had a constant stream of the following bird selection willing to pose for me! Many of them all perched on the same rose bush.

Bittern at Deeping Lakes
Can you guess what it is?! As we arrived at Deeping Lakes we saw the Bittern fly towards us in the car park, he did a big U turn and landed at the edge of the lake close to the reeds. My camera was still in the bag as we were sat eating our picnic. We walked our usual route, over the small bridge then around the edge of a small paddock where we often see sheep grazing. Today we saw a Green Woodpecker fly across the paddock and land on a fence post. We walked through the woods to a small clearing and wanted to see over the fence, on approaching the small bush Shan stood on one side of the bush me on the other we startled the Bittern who flew away he obviously thought he was well hidden standing behind it! We stood in amazement having seen him twice in one day, and we were so close!

Osprey Rutland Water
16th August 2024 we visited Lyndon Reserve at Rutland Water hoping the Ospreys may be visible. It was a beautiful clear day, Maya (F) was on the post to the left of the nest. 3311 (M) was feeding on a fish in the tree to the right of the nest and their only chick this year 1RO was sitting on the same branch to the left of 3311. The volunteer in the hide thought the juvenile would be leaving Rutland Water any day to begin his solo journey to Africa. Once he had left Maya and 3311 would also leave.
